January 2, 2019
Every year I look forward to making New Year resolutions. I love working toward my goals and the fresh start of a new year gets me so motivated. As I started writing out my resolutions I quickly noticed a theme. That was when I decided to come up with one word to embody this entire year. If you’re anything like me, you make a long list filled with goals and things you hope to achieve, so many that you never get around to most of them. I’m looking forward to having a ‘theme’ this year and working toward this one word.
FOCUS. Something I feel I have been lacking lately. My mind is always running a mile an hour (-Michael Scott ;)) and I am always thinking of new ideas and what I need to do next, this can prevent me from focusing on what I am doing right here and now. In fact I literally just got distracted and started rearranging the sticky notes in my drawer. *face palm* okay focusing.
There are a few specific things that I really want to focus on this year-
1. God. I have been trying to build a better relationship with God & I have learned that when I put my focus on Him I feel so much peace, my mind feels clearer and sharper, therefore helping me to focus better on my daily tasks. I have faith that when I have God at the center of my days and life all the rest will fall into place.
“I have set the Lord always before me:
because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.”
2. My life, not what someone else on instagram is doing. I think we all get caught up sometimes in social media and everyone else’s lives thinking that they have it better. This is simply not true & the purpose of our lives is not meant to be spent envying & constantly watching others. Now, I don’t mean focusing on myself in a selfish “all about me” way, which brings me to my next point…
3. Serving others. If you read this post then you know how I feel about service & the benefits that come from it. When we focus on others it puts our own lives into perspective and not only blesses those we are serving, but it blesses us as well.
4. All the good in this moment. Sometimes I have a really hard time accepting what I have & where I am right now. I tend to look to the future a lot which can cause a lot of worry and also forces me out of the beautiful life I am living currently. So, I am going to practice focusing on the now. Because I know that in the blink of an eye, 2019 is going to be over just like the year before it.
This year I am going to be adjusting my focus & finding a new perspective. I am so looking forward to 2019 and all the promise that it holds for me and you! As I reflect on the past year of 2018 I’m so overwhelmed with gratitude for the places it took me & the things it showed me. There were good times and there were hard times. Days of laughter & nights of tears. I love that life is so unexpected, always leading us down roads of twists and turns, to a destination we never dreamed we’d find. As much as I appreciate the happy times in life, the times when I really learn and grow are through the heartbreak and sorrow. There is good and hard in every year & for that I’m so thankful.
Here’s to the best year yet! I pray that yours is filled with so much overwhelming joy and that when life gets blurry, we can adjust our focus. Repeat after me: THIS IS MY YEAR!
When you focus on the good, the good gets better.
p.s. If you came up with your own word or phrase for this year I would love to hear it! Leave it in a comment below! 🙂
